Southwest Airlines is a U.S-based low cost carrier based in Dallas. The airline uses mostly Boeing 737 and a few Boeing 717 acquired from defunct airline AirTran Airways. Southwest has began servicing 737-800 on their flights in order to accommodate high-demand, slot controlled, or gate-restricted airports. The new plane can hold 175 passengers making a 30 percent increase with the current fleet configuration. Currently the new plane flies from Fort Lauderdale to Chicago-Midway and Baltimore. The plane also flies to Chicago-Midway and Philadelphia from Fort Myers. Baltimore flies to Los Angeles using this model. The destinations mentioned are some of the airline's secondary hub airports.
This blog gives the reader the insight of a new model aircraft joining the Southwest Airlines fleet on April 11, 2012. It also mentions that south florida will be the first place that the new plane will fly to.
